Learn more about Sarasota home owner's insurance and what is covered during a storm.

Home buyers frequently ask me about hurricane insurance.  "Wind mitigation", as it is called, is included in your blanket policy.  The design and condition of your home's roof will be outlined in a home inspection report, and a copy will go to your insurer.

While no two policies are the same, homeowner's insurance will cover damage to your home if it was caused by a storm.  It will even reimburse you for hotel stays associated with an evacuation or if your house is not habitable.

Make sure to take detailed photographs of your property prior to a hurricane strike.

Homeowner's insurance cannot be obtained if tropical storm force winds are in effect anywhere within a "hurricane box", which extends east to The Bahamas and south of Cuba.

If you are closing on the purchase of a Florida home it is imperative that you bind homeowner's insurance well in advance of your closing date in case a storm forms and approaches the state, so your closing is not delayed.

Condos and Flood Insurance

If you own a condo, your condo association fees cover insurance for the structure, such as exterior walls, windows, and roof.  Owner's condo insurance provides coverage for HVAC, appliances, and personal items located within the stud walls, and will protect you from loss in a flood event.
